Call of Duty Black Ops Buy now from GAME.co.uk
Anyone who has played Call of Duty: Black Ops online will know the game has been riddled with problems since launch. However, I am pleased to note that developers Treyarch have already released a number of patches in an attempt to fix these. I could talk about these in some detail but it will be easier to show you this video from WoodysGamerTag:
The actual point of this post is to talk about quickscoping. If you’re new to the series, quickscoping is a technique used by snipers which allows them to play aggressively as opposed to sitting (camping) in an obscure corner of the map picking off unsuspecting victims.
People complain that quickscoping in unrealistic – yet they fail to comment on the lack of realism when they respawn 5 seconds after being shot / stabbed / blown up.
In Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 you had 10 different classes to customise. On my PSN account, 9 of these had the Intervention Sniper Rifle as my primary weapon – so as you can probably fathom I’m a big fan of quickscoping
Contrary to what you will hear online, quickscoping should not be used exclusively. The point of the technique is to enable you to move around strategic positions on the map and stay alive in the event you come up against someone running a fully automatic assault rifle, light or sub-machine gun.
For reasons unknown Treyarch despise the quickscoping community and did everything they could to remove it from the game. As far as Treyarch are concerned, if you’re holding a sniper rifle you should not be able to compete toe to toe with any other kind of weapon. Personally I think this was a big mistake and Treyarch are already feeling the wrath of millions of keyboard warriors on their forums at CallofDuty.com.
Treyarch addressed the ability to quickscope by doing two things:
1) It now takes a full working week for the sniper scope to appear on-screen; and
2) Once it does appear, it wobbles randomly for almost a second.
The effect of this is that most people now choose to arm themselves with a fully automatic weapon, thus removing an element of variety from the game. In my eyes this makes it less fun however I’ll still try and master the bolt-action sniper rifles…..
