Parrot, makers of the Augmented Reality (AR) drone, state that this is the first quadricopter that can be controlled by an iPhone®, iPod Touch® or an iPad®. To my knowledge it is actually it the first remote controlled toy that can be controlled a mobile phone – Apple or otherwise.
The AR Drone, quickly becoming known as the iPhone helicopter, has a built in wi-fi system which allows any iPhone®, iPod Touch® or iPad® to communicate with the device via an application which can be freely downloaded from the App Store.

The following video posted to YouTube shows the AR Drone in action. However, this is just the start of things to come. Aside from being a fully controllable remote controlled quadricopter, the device also takes advantage of improving augmented reality (AR) technology, which allows an interactive layer to be placed over the top of live images streamed from the devices on-board camera. I doubt the early application developers will have anything other than gaming applications in mind
