On the plus side I don’t have any missing programs or applications and, as far as I can see, my iPhone isn’t suffering from poor signal. Hopefully I will be able to bring more positive comments once I have explored the update further!
As updates go, this was a bloody nightmare. I don’t recall any read-me files saying the phone needs to be locked (press the on/off button on the top of the iPhone) for iTunes to be able to unpack and install firmware 2.2, however this is the only way I could get the installation to work.
Normally, you can use your iPhone whilst connected to iTunes and if you attempt a sync it will lock the menu and display a message – “sync in progress”. I noticed iTunes wasn’t doing this when I was attempting to run the 2.2 firmware upgrade, so I hoped this was the cause of a failed installation on the first (second and third) attempts.
Thankfully, locking the iPhone and then running the install worked first time and took about 15 minutes. Given I was unable to fully backup my iPhone prior to upgrading from 2.1 to 2.2 (see here!) I thought I should do so immediately after the upgrade. To cut to the chase, I see no improvement and guesstimate my iPhone needs at least a day to update. Apple, please fix this!

Love your weblog. I have bookmarked it!
Glad you like it.
Does your iPhone software work on 2.2? The ability to send MMS messages sounds very interesting indeed!
